Laying Hens Pasture Rotation


http://bit.ly/1g7qtrt The chickens spend 4 days in each new fence. 2 days in the first spot, and two days pulled to the other end of the rectangle. This helps to even out their impact on pasture without driving over it every single day causing compaction. If the fencing is touching grass it will short out and become ineffective. I cannot have livestock guardian dogs on my property and we have a lot of predators. My fences must be hot 24 hours a day otherwise I suffer losses to the flock. Ask me how I know... That is why the weed-whacking or mowing. typically I just mow and it is quicker but the pasture was particularly wet this day and I didn't want to drive the tractor over it.
