Local governments crackdown on residents going 'off-the-grid'


Local governments often quash attempts by citizens to live off-the-grid. Those who generate their own power, grow their food and attempt to live sustainably can face fines and other penalties for unhooking from municipal services. The Environmental Protection Agency announced Monday new coal regulations meant to cut back on the nation's carbon footprint, yet local governments penalize individuals who attempt the same thing.
