Rewiring The Chicken Electric Fence To Stop Raccoon Attacks

Raccoons have invaded the homestead again so I put the chickens back into their pens and spent an entire day rewiring the electric fence in order to protect the birds from predators. I lost three chickens in a single night. I ran outside too late to save the last one as a raccoon stood over its body. I was able to fire a few rounds from my 12 gauge to scare it off. The next morning was all about the chickens. I lured them back into the coop with some food. Then I patched up the cut I had made into the fence to keep them inside. I spent the whole day removing the temporary electric fence about the little chicken tractor and wiring up a new fence around the entire perimeter of the chicken range and garden. I had to use some special insulators to pass the electric fence wire through some chicken wire in places where the chicken wire met in corners. I now have the entire chicken range protected as well as the new bantam chicken range and the garden. The garden would be a back door to predators so I had to wire that up as well. I can sleep easy once again knowing that for now my chickens are safe from predators. I will keep them inside the chicken range until I have the entire electric fence surrounding the meadow. I have lost most of my silkie chickens to some odd illness. They all died within three days of one another out in the woods with no visible wounds at all. They all just dropped dead all at once in various places in the woods. I have no idea why or what happened to them. I am quite sad because they were very beautiful and let me handle them. The last four remaining silkies are back in the chicken range and doing well. I dont know if the others ate something bad or what.
