"Do you know how hard it is to sleep on concrete? Being homeless is hard. The police abuse makes it worse," Floyd, homeless New Yorker, Picture the Homeless member. Today, we are asking the city to return to Floyd the monetary value of all that they took from him. On October 2, 2015, Floyd was kicked awake by members of the NYPD and the Department of Sanitation. By the time Floyd was ready to collect his things, they had already thrown his few possessions into the back of a garbage truck. Being homeless is a tragedy, not a crime. To many homeless New Yorkers, the things they carry gives them a sense of home. It is heartbreaking to know that our city could treat those that have so little as if they are less than human. In this holiday season, we are asking the city to show some love by treating homeless New Yorkers with a level of respect that everyone deserves.
