Camille Richman presents an open source tool called a Food Computer that she is developing at the MIT Media Lab at the Open Agriculture Initiative. Find out how food computing could be used to create, save, and share climates for growing nutritious and delicious crops no matter the location or season. Camille Richman is a Research Specialist in the MIT Media Lab’s Open Agriculture Initiative, which develops open source controlled environment agriculture technology platforms that promote food transparency, networked experimentation, hands-on education, and local food production. Camille is a mechanical engineer in Open Agriculture’s anti-disciplinary team of architects, computer scientists, electrical engineers, and farmers. Her work is currently focused on the development of the Food Computer, a desktop controlled environment farm that can be used to create and share climate recipes, modifications, and upgrades. Camille hopes that by creating a network of Food Computer users sharing their hardware, software, and climate data knowledge, the science behind modern agriculture technologies will be accessible to the masses.
