Genetically Modified Mosquitoes May Be The Answer To Dengue

Oxitec the bioengineering company has created a genetically modified mosquito capable of killing off other mosquitos that spread the the dengue disease. The company issued a press release that states the mosquitos successfully dropped the the dengue cases in the Brazilian city of Piracicaba. When just insecticide was used the cases dropped 51%, however when the genetically modified mosquitoes were released in the same area the instances dropped 91%. going from 133 to just 12 reported cases.
