Massive Service Cuts Necessary In Alaska Without Tax Increase

On Thursday, Alaskan Governor Bill Walker warned that if lawmakers failed to pass a tax increase during their current legislative session, the state would be in a dire financial situation. Walker warned that crucial public service would be cut even though the state has already enacted sharp spending cuts. The required tax boost would allow the state to avoid a 75 percent reduction in public safety services, a 67 percent cut to education, and an 80 percent reduction in transportation services.
