Earthquake Shakes Central America as Hurricane Otto Hits Land



A strong earthquake in the Pacific Ocean shook the coastal region of Central America. US monitoring agencies stated the quake may prompt tsunami waves as a hurricane heads for the Caribbean coasts of Nicaragua and Costa Rica. The earthquake, that measured at a magnitude of 7.0, occurred over six miles below the seabed, which could amplify its effect. According to the US Geological Survey, the epicenter was located about 90 miles from Puerto Triunfo in El Salvador.
