“Turkey would lose a lot” if its EU accession process was to end, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini stated in Strasbourg on Tuesday. Mogherini stressed that if Turkey was to introduce the death penalty, it would be perceived as a signal that Ankara does not want to be part of the EU or the European Council. “Shared values” are an essential part of the membership, she maintained, and “capital punishment is for sure not one of them.” The EU policy chief called for a “constant reciprocal dialogue” between Brussels and Ankara, but also suggested that Europe should consider “which tools and which instruments” could be used to “increase and not to reduce [their] leverage on Turkey's reforms and on its society as a whole.” Video ID: 20161122 043 Video on Demand: http://www.ruptly.tv Contact: cd@ruptly.tv Twitter: http://twitter.com/Ruptly Facebook: http://bit.ly/2drN1nQ
