German Foreign Minister and presidential candidate Frank-Walter Steinmeier said at a press conference in Berlin on Tuesday that it was no surprise that Donald Trump had promised to withdraw from the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) when he becomes US president. SOT, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, German Foreign Minister (German): "We shouldn't be so surprised [with these statements by Donald Trump]. These were the [same] statements that we had already heard during the campaign. Now we will have to see how the American government will create a new administration. I advise against commenting on every new statement, we should instead wait and see how the new American government will change the trade relationship between Europe and USA. That is in any case the 'scoop' from the statement that we have just heard from the president-elect." SOT, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, German Foreign Minister (German): "For years many people, also in Germany, didn't expect it to be so, but Albania has developed as an anchor of stability in the western Balkans. It is a close partner, not only for Europe, but also for Germany. I'm glad that the judicial reform has been completed. I want to assure you that we will support the continuation of the reform process, and help if help is desired. We can be optimistic and encourage Albania to continue pursuing the European path."
