A new wave of violent clashes between the police and protesting truck drivers, alongside their supporters, shook the Peruvian capital Lima, Thursday. The violence followed last's week demonstration, where protesters rioted against the newly installed toll booths, erected around Lima, which cost 5 soles (€1.40/$1.49) to pass. Protesters threw rocks at the police and set truck tires on fire as they blocked the North Pan-American Highway. In turn, police fired tear gas canisters towards the crowd and charged them in an attempt to break up the demonstration.
