Syrian government forces have launched an operation to retake 11 villages held by Nusra Front terrorists in the Wadi Barada valley, near Damascus. The government says water supply to Damascus was disrupted after terrorists sabatoged a reservoir in the region, leaving millions without running water. The United Nations Children’s Fund has expressed concern that children in the Syrian capital are at risk of water-borne diseases. The U-N has warned that targeting water reserves in Wadi Barada constitutes a war crime. But it has not yet stated who was responsible. In a letter to the world body, the Syrian Foreign Ministry accused Nusra Front terrorists of destroying the capital’s main water pump and polluting the water with diesel. The World Health Organization says repairs of the damaged water facilities would take several days.
