The United Nations has issued a fresh warning to Myanmar over the plight of ethnic minority Rohingya Muslims in the Southeast Asian nation. In a letter obtained by media addressing the authorities in Myanmar, the world body has warned against the demolition of Rohingya homes. The UN says it has received reports that Myanmar’s military has carried out orders to demolish over 8-hundred buildings owned by Muslims in Rakhine State. UN officials have confirmed the authenticity of the letter signed by senior UN advisor, Chris Carter. Myanmar has faced severe criticism from the UN and international rights organizations over the brutal crackdown on the Rohingya. The government has so far denied media access to Rakhine state. However, satellite images and witness accounts show widespread arson attacks, killing and rape of Rohingya men and women by Myanmar’s security forces.
