Belgium: 'It is time to close down the route from Libya to Italy' – Tusk #okc #news #wth

European Council President Donald Tusk held a joint press statement with Libyan Prime Minister Fayez al-Sarraj in Brussels, on Thursday, where he stated that shutting down irregular migration routes across the Mediterranean are within the EU's reach, and that it was time to bring an end to the Libyan route to Europe. Fayez al-Sarraj, Prime Minister of Libya (Arabic): “There are many concerns that we share with the European Union and our neighbour, Europe. These concerns are troubling for all of us, Libyans or Europeans. This includes illegal migration, and fighting terrorism. As for illegal migration, it is a tragedy, really and there are many aspects to it; security, humanitarian, economic, social and political aspects. We have to find solutions to all of these aspects. The cooperation between Libya and Europe on this matter is extremely important, so that we resolve this problem and preserve the lives of the migrants, their return to the countries and the development of their nations, so that they are not forced to leave or escape in dire humanitarian conditions.” Fayez al-Sarraj, Prime Minister of Libya (Arabic): “We hope the mechanisms of the European support to Libya [in the fight against terrorism] more efficient. We are not talking about numbers, because no matter how great these numbers are, they are very humble in comparison to the Libyans’ needs, we hope the support will be implemented more efficiently so that reach safety and achieve peace and stability in Libya.” Video ID: 20170202-013 Video on Demand: http://www.ruptly.tv Contact: cd@ruptly.tv Twitter: http://twitter.com/Ruptly Facebook: http://bit.ly/2drN1nQ
