Iraq: US DefSec Mattis arrives in Baghdad for talks with Iraqi counterpart #okc #news #wth



Mandatory Credit: Iraqi Ministry of Defence US Secretary of Defence James Mattis met with newly appointed Iraqi Minister of Defence Irfan al-Hayali in Baghdad, Monday. Defeating radical Islamist groups, in particular, the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIL/ISIS) reportedly topped the agenda of the meeting. Iraqi government forces, supported by the US-led anti-IS coalition, renewed their assault against the militant group in the Mosul area, Sunday. There are concerns that the residential areas in densely populated parts of the city will be heavily affected by the offensive.
