Breitbart editor Milo Yiannopoulos said that the riot that canceled his planned speech at the University of California-Berkeley was "heavily ironic and very, I think, self-defeating for the social justice left." Yiannopoulos' planned talk was scrapped after violent protesters hurled smoke bombs, broke windows and started a bonfire outside the student union where he was to appear. "No one’s safety is at risk from different opinions," Yiannopoulos told "Tucker Carlson Tonight" in a phone interivew. "No one’s physical safety is endangered by political ideas from a speaker on campus, but universities have sort of allowed this stuff to happen, and even in some cases encouraged it." The Berkeley appearance was to be the 32-year-old's last stop on a nationwide college tour that has sparked protests and occasional violence. Yiannopoulos told Carlson that he believes the protesters view him as a proxy for President Donald Trump, whom he vocally supports. Shortly after UC Berkeley protesters derailed the finale of the Dangerous Faggot Tour, MILO spoke with Fox News’ Tucker Carlson about the serious issues in American higher education. MILO told Tucker Carlson that tonight’s riots are an embarrassment for American higher education. “I think tonight is…a horrible spectacle and very humiliating for American higher education.” He added that he’s learned over the course of the Dangerous Faggot Tour that there isn’t much that can be said on a college campus without upsetting students. “…I found out actually you can’t say very much at all without people getting upset.” He recounted for Carlson what happened on campus and said that this is “the price you pay” for daring to be a conservative or libertarian on a college campus. He said liberals call everyone “Nazis” and faulted the mainstream media for creating that environment. Yiannopoulos called out CNN in particular and said that the press needs to be held to account for the way they legitimize the kind of “appalling” language thrown at anyone even slightly conservative. Carlson noted a lot of the press coverage of the rioting last night carried the subtext of “you deserve it” and he took notice of how not very many liberals have come to Yiannopoulos’ defense. Yiannopoulos said that for them to do that would be to admit that there’s actually a problem on their side. He told Carlson that one of the biggest reasons liberals are outraged by him is that they fear how popular he is and how young his audience is, adding that hate speech now seems to be defined as whatever speech liberals don’t like.
