We've got a series of storms set to sweep across the USA over the next week & in this 1st installment of the series, we are going to take a look at winter storm Orson. God Bless everyone, T @newTHOR on twitter http://bit.ly/1FL7e16 articles about the storm http://wxch.nl/2lwahqN Just days after Winter Storm Niko, yet another New England snowstorm looms. Peak impact appears to be later Sunday into Monday. Blizzard conditions are once again possible in some areas. Winter Storm Orson will hammer parts of New England, including Boston, starting Sunday, just days after Winter Storm Niko dumped 1 to 2 feet of snow in parts of the Northeast. Saturday Night For much of the evening, plain rain is expected in the eastern Ohio River Valley from Illinois to Pennsylvania. During the overnight hours, cold air may turn rain to snow, sleet or freezing rain from the Upper Midwest eastward into parts of Upstate New York. Confidence on exactly how much precipitation will be snow on the northern fringe of Orson is low. Any snow, sleet or freezing rain that does occur will be in the pre-dawn hours of Sunday. Sunday Snow is likely from the Great Lakes into upstate New York and much of New England. A mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain is expected in parts of southern New York, northern Pennsylvania, and parts of southern New England, particularly as precipitation initially starts. Rain is expected farther south into the mid-Atlantic states. Some locations in the interior Northeast that experience rain during the day may change to snow overnight before the event is over. Monday Snow, heavy at times, is probable over at least parts of New England, most likely over eastern New England, possibly including the Boston metro. Snowfall rates of 2 to 4 inches an hour are possible in eastern New England. Winds may intensify quickly, particularly near coastal New England, with gusts over 50 mph likely. Wind gusts of this strength are capable of downing trees, power lines, and triggering power outages, not to mention creating potential blizzard conditions, in some spots. Blowing and drifting of snow is possible even in inland locations. This may have high-impact on Monday travel in New England, including flight cancelations and difficult travel on roads. Areas from New York City south will be dry, but windy.
