Iraq town decries deadly effects of oil production pollution
People in a small town in southern Iraq say pollution from oil production is killing them. They blame gas flaring - when oil is extracted and excess natural gas is burned off, releasing CO2 and methane. The Basra health department says the pollution from oil production is making people and animals in the area sick. The Iraqi government is investing billions in an attempt to use the gas for electricity instead of burning it. But as Al Jazeera's Natasha Ghoneim reports from Bahla village, in Basra, many say it is already too late. - Follow us on Twitter: https://twitter.com/AJEnglish/ - Find us on Facebook: https://bit.ly/3zotwW3 - Check our website: https://bit.ly/2Mc5ZCt
