'Sea Surface on Fire in Mexico Gulf Pipeline Explosion' A fire erupted on the sea surface in the Gulf of Mexico when a gas pipeline leaked, igniting the blaze on Friday. Mexico’s state-owned Pemex petrol company said rain and an electrical storm and heavy rains damaged the pipeline about 140 metres from the KU-C satellite platform. Their report also said workers used nitrogen to get the flames under control in five hours - no injuries or evacuations were reported.
