Russia is seeking to stage naval drills with the Philippines, following President Rodrigo Duterte's decision to downgrade his country’s ties with the United States. Two warships from Russia's Pacific fleet docked in Manila on Tuesday for a four-day visit with the goal of taking part in potential bilateral navy drills. The drills are expected to include showing off weapons and tactics. Last October, Duterte expressed desire to forge stronger defense and economic alliance with Russia and China. The president has time and again threatened to scale back US troop presence in the Philippines.
