President Donald Trump said his administration will continue to enforce Obama-era workplace protections for LGBT workers and contractors. Obama’s 2014 executive order was the first to offer explicit nondiscrimination protections based on gender identity to federal workers. It was also the first to ban discrimination in federal contracts for all LGBT people. Trump’s statement comes after rumors that he would sign a separate religious freedom order, which could curtail some of Obama’s LGBT protections. For example, it could allow federal officials to refuse to comply on religious grounds.
