Baghdad Protest Turns Deadly #okc #news #wth



On Saturday, supporters of a powerful Iraqi Shiite cleric held a protest that turned deadly. Seven were wounded and a police officer was killed in the confrontation between security forces and supporters of Muqtada al-Sadr in Baghdad. Following accusations of corruption, Sadr called for reform of Iraq's election commission. When demonstrators and supporters reached a fortified area known as the Green Zone, police began to fire tear gas at the crowd. Sadr called the response a use of unnecessary force, and blame's the current Prime Minister, Haider al-Abadi. Abadi defended the right of the people to hold peaceful protests, but called for order.
