A NATO spokeswoman said on Saturday, that the alliance has accused Russia of escalating a disinformation campaign, since the Kremlin's 2014 seizure of Ukraine's Crimea region, claiming Russian websites such as Sputnik and RT posted false stories. There has been an increasing concern from senior NATO and European Union officials about Russia's ability to use television and the internet as an outlet to spread fake news.
