Tensions in relations between U.S and Iran has spiked to an unprecedented level after drone attacks on Saudi Aramco Abqaiq facility. Viewers may note that it is the world’s largest petroleum processing plant. The US president stated in Twitter: “Saudi Arabia oil supply was attacked. There is reason to believe that we know the culprit, are locked and loaded depending on verification, but are waiting to hear from the Kingdom as to who they believe was the cause of this attack, and under what terms we would proceed!” The attacks disrupted more than half of the kingdom’s oil output and will affect global supplies. Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi rebel group claimed responsibility for it. The US secretary of state Mike Pompeo claimed that Iran was responsible and accused it of “an unprecedented attack on the world’s energy supply”. Iran has denied its involvement and Iranian officials have warned that the US military assets in the region were within strike range of the its missiles.
